What is a myth?

A myth is a traditional story that explains a belief, a natural phenomenon, or a religious practice. These stories are usually supposed to be true, but they are not based on historical facts or scientific evidence. Myths are often passed down orally from generation to generation and are an important part of many cultures and belief systems around the world. They usually feature gods, goddesses, heroes, and monsters and are often set in a mythical or magical world. Myths serve as a way for people to understand the world around them, to explain the unexplainable, and to teach moral lessons and cultural values. Examples of myths include the Greek myth of Perseus and Medusa, the Norse myth of Thor and Loki, and the Hindu myth of Lord Shiva.
